Mental and physical Health Evaluation with Cornell Medical Index Among Women Worker

Abstract
In this study, an attempt was made to evaluate theZmental and physical health status of young workers in the city of Busan, Korea, by using the Cornell Medical Index.
The data was collected between October 15th and November 20th 1980.
The subjects were 2 groups which. consisted .of the experimental and the control group: The experimental group (N= 164), were young women workers ¢¥and the control group (N=198) were college students. Both group were chosen by random sampling.
The result of the study of both groups was statistically compared and the major findings
are as follows;
1) The experimental group had a mean score of 17.59 (S.D 9.89) in M-R items, while the control group had a mean score of 155 34 (S.D. 8.43),, and so tl;.e experimental group had a higher score value than the control group. (P<0.05)
2) Comparing both groups be age, regarding those who were .around 20 years ald, the result showed little difference between the 2 groups in terms of A-R and A-L items.
Considerable difference showed in the area of M-R items (Mental ; complaints) which are seen to increase inversely with are in the experimental group. (Mean score of 18.16 with SD 8.98 (P<0.05) )
3) Comparing both groups in the area of A-L and M-R,-Considering the women in the over 20 year old aged group, the experimental group showed a significantly remarkable increase in the A-L items particularly among Respiratory and Genito-Urinary complaints and illnesses. (P<0.05)
In this same group the M-R items were of much, higher value than the ; control group,
especially in the areas of complaints about depression, _fear and emotional tension. (P<0.001)
4) Comparing both groups, taking only those young women who were either below or over age twenty, the experimental group showed depression and far.
Those in the below twenty age group have a very significant increase in psychic complaints such as weakness and emotional tension (P<0.001).
On the other hand, those in the above twenty age group show a proportionate increase of phyical complaints in addition to the psychic ones.
5) From these results, we can assume that the Cornell Medical Index Method is extremly helpful in mass screening examination of physical &mental health, and also an aid to manage young women workers, by providing then information of physical and emotional evaluation as preventive medicine.
